I don't have the words to describe how eye-opening, comforting and touching this book was. The writing was so approachable while still making me think and examine masculinity more deeply (which to be honest I hadn't given that much thought to). Not sure if it's weird to call this a delightful book but good god it was.
There were so many lines I loved but here is one of my particular favourites: "we become the bodies we have."
If you're looking for a book that talks about gender, masculinity and violence without being too academic I highly recommend this book.

Interesting and thought-provoking. The author breaks down complex concepts well and the reflections about grief and his changing relationships with his partner and family are particularly interesting.
There were parts that felt very specifically American in ways that were harder to access, both in the author's experiences of masculinity and in geographical details (eg the different neighbourhoods in New York). I was also surprisedthere isn't much perspective from Eric - did he not want to be interviewed?
