I am participating in the #ReadChristie2021 Challenge this year and this was the February pick. It was also my first Christie book and thus an introduction of criminal novels into my reading repertiore. As I am a big fan of the movie adaptations of Christie's novels, I suspected that I would enjoy her writing as well. And indeed, I quite enjoyed this collection of short stories. Parker Pyne is quite a unique character, though I must admit that I prefer Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot. However, it is your "classical" Christie-read, I guess, as the ending of each story reveals a surprise and it is both thrilling and funny. My favourite story of this collection was by far "The Case of the Discontented Soldier".

This is a different kind of Agatha Christie book for me. The end may feel like it comes out of left field but Agatha is so good at using the Chekhov's gun principle that actually every thing is right there "hanging on the wall at the start." If you will. Its an enjoyable read, with good character. One thing I have notices is that she really liked paring off couples at the end of her books, nine times out of ten there is an engagement or even a marriage at the end of her books. Not really a complaint just an observation.
