I absolutely fell in love with this series. This book was amazing. It pulled at my heartstrings and has moved me more than any book has in a long while. This series is undoubtably at the top of my favorites list, along side Harry Potter. I forsee many blissful re-readings!

Almost TOO wordy for me (and as someone who dearly enjoys a wordy book, that's saying something) Not sure if it's me or the book, but I felt a little let down by this one. It just didn't quite fulfill my expectations.

I loved the first two books of this series; the world is deep and expansive, the characters are lovable, the way the society is structured, and the career paths to choose from are very neat. Plus I mean, come on, monsters! AND people who can fight with lightning or telekinesis! But as I finished this last book, I felt empty. Not much really happened in this 700 page book, and when things did happen, it took forever for them to get going. There are so many loose ends in this book that never got tied up or some that were just given a quick explanation. What ever happened to the Lamplighter Marshall and Mister Sebastipole? Or what about Verline? What eventually happened to Winstermill? So much was focused on setting up the new villain that important characters never got their story completed. That's not to say that Rossamund's story wasn't fulfilling, and that this isn't worth a read. I just had hoped a lot more would have happened or been explained fuller to end this wonderful series.

I struggled to finish this series after almost ten years for THAT ending???

The book wasn't bad, but like........that definitely wasn't a satisfying ending.

This was a solid ending to the trilogy, although I can see how more could be told. I thoroughly enjoyed Rosamund and his protectors and listening to him become more confident and sure of who he was. Their adventures continued to be interesting and their battles, hard fought.

I'm getting very tired of Rossamund and the strange vocabulary of this series.

I am a little bit sad about the ending but I know what happened was for the best. Loved the book regardless.

Cornish delivers on the promise of the first two novels in this trilogy with Factotum, which further develops one of the best relationships in fantasy fiction, between Rossamund--the boy who this bildungsroman is about--and the brilliant teratologist, the Branden Rose. Along the way, we get unforgettable characters such as the Lapinduce, and a deadly showdown with the minions of a decadent, deplorable aristocrat. Kudos to Cornish for not feeling he had to organize his trilogy around a world-shattering war or threat. Not that those are de facto to be avoided, but there's no shortage of Chosen One fantasy fiction to choose from. It's great to have something completely different from time to time. Add in Cornish's top-notch world-building and pitch-perfect ear for dialogue, and names that sound faraway and fantastic while not being festooned with myriad syllables and apostrophes in awkward places, and you've got a classic in the making.

Yet ANOTHER under appreciated gem. D. M. Cornish does and incredible job with this series. The world, the language, the characters, the complexity of what makes a human and what makes a monster, the kindness and empathy... the first book may seem a bit questionable and the first half of the 2nd book also takes work to get through, but like A:TLA, it’s SO worth it in the final book.

I really liked this book; love the way the main character develops.

I was under the impression however that this would be a trilogy, but the story isn't finished, so eagerly anticipating more :)
