This is a tale of survival for what an incredibly dysfunctional, horrible family can do to someone! I may be one of the older generations of Britney's fans, but I loved her music when it came out and would always dance (regardless of the fact I could not dance) and sing. Her music was fun, catchy, and just all-around fun.
When the #freebritney movement came out, I didn't pay much attention because she hadn't been around, and I mostly listen to country music these days. But when I started looking into the details of it, I felt sad for her. And this book gave me all the feels. Yes, she isn't a superstar writer, but she is a master of telling HER story and letting you look into the horror of a life she had for so long.
I would say a strong 4.5-4.75 that I rounded up. It was most definitely worth the wait, as well as the hype.
I'm not a big memoir person, and to be honest, this (and Matthew Perry's) might be the only 2 I've ever read.

I always considered myself to grow up in the best decade (the 90s…or, as the kids like to refer to it, the 1900s 🤣🤣). There wasn’t a pop star or group I didn’t listen to and love, Britney Spears being no exception. Looking back, there are things we know now that I just didn’t get as a kid, and Britney’s experience speaks to that.
Britney’s story is one where the system, and people who were supposed to be taking care of her, let her down over and over again. It’s clear to the reader that her goal in this memoir is to share her story, and that she is still feeling raw. I hope she finds a really good therapist who is there to support her (not her dad’s agenda), and can continue to heal. She is finding her strength and her voice after decades of not being allowed to have either, and I think we can all applaud that.

This review has me torn. On one hand I want to rate it high because of the vulnerability it shows, but on the other hand it was kind of weird to read. The narrative jumps around with stories just quickly thrown in and glossed over where other parts are lingered upon. Also, not that I know Britney Spears in a personal level, but the voice of the story didn’t feel like her. Overall a quick read that I was able to get through in 2 days via audio but not as impactful as I had hoped.
