This book… this BOOK! I loved it. It’s told in three parts, with Part 2 being my favourite bit (followed closely with Part 3!), full of charming, chaotic goodness. Like capital G Goodness. The main characters are so warm and enticing and even most of the smaller characters have their endearing qualities. My reading experience was so reminiscent of one of my all time favourite books, ‘I Capture the Castle’ by Dodie Smith - book it even name checks! - that I suppose it was destiny I should love it. The plot is intricately crafted, with some satisfying curveballs, and Chambers is the master of big reveals. A gorgeous book that I’m sure I will re-read time and time again. (I read it on Kindle but had to own it in paperback - a sign of true love!)

this book was just so lovely, i couldn’t say why exactly i loved this book so much other than clare chamber’s brilliant writing. i was just completely gripped, even though the actual story wasn’t particularly exciting, really just a testament to chambers

My 2nd Chambers book and I’ll definitely be coming back for more.
She has a special way of writing that makes me feel like I’m watching it all play out clearly, the characters are simple and easy to follow and even easier to like.
It was long in parts and I was kind of waiting for something to happen but it did, it was just subtle which was certainly not a bad thing!

I picked up this book not thinking it would be one of my favourite reads in a while. Often when I read a book, I remember the bigger, more pivotal events. In this book, I remember certain words, feelings, characters speeches etc because of how invested I was in this family. A beautiful story on how nothing is promised.
