While I didn’t dislike Murder on the Red River, it also didn’t stand out.

There are a lot of books in this “mysterious with a misunderstood female lead” space, and I didn’t find this one unique enough to be memorable.

This is interesting, I liked it overall. Very interesting tale and necessary story about the history of the Indigenous peoples of America and how they’ve been treated. I will definitely read the next one.

A very interesting story with an even more interesting main character. Cash is a Native girl, hard as nails because that's what life has taught her: never trust anyone but yourself. She lives by herself, driving trucks and playing pool to get some extra money or to drink for free.

She's angry, with very valid reasons to feel that way, and mostly, she's isolated. Her only real connection is with Sheriff Wheaton, the only person who has ever lent her a hand when she needed it the most, and who has kept an eye on her since she was three years old.

Somehow, they've forged an unlikely partnership looking into the murder of an Indian, from Red Lake Reservation. Sheriff Wheaton can't investigate it, as the Reserve is Federal jurisdiction, but Cash fits right in with them and she understands better than most what this death has done to the family. She's determined to find out what went on that night.

I found everything about this book very enticing: the setting, the characters, the mystery... and I was surprised to discover that this was the author's first book. I'll be reading the rest of the series, I want to see how Cash's life keeps going :D
