"If Shakespeare had a sister as talented as he, would she have got the same opportunities to develop her skills?"

It's an essay written by Virgina Wolf for the topic Women and fiction. It's a modern feminism classic. You may wonder what women and fiction has to do with A room of One's own.. but the author explains that when a woman want to write anything or think anything unobstrictively she needs a room that can be locked and money of her own. She depicts the baises and conventional attitudes which caused suffering to write anything by a women.

It's a short but profound read which mades me think a lot about the obstructions the previous generations faced and privileges we are having right now but also new type of obstructions facing now. She really is a fiction author because the way she seemingly jumps from one scenario to other is very novel and her thoughts about the women's role in writing fiction is very practical.

I liked the way she ended the essay without any hate speech upon men and only highlighting the issue for a need for the freedom of women to develop their own strengths.

Just a university read but this was a reread. It's always good to go back a Virginia Woolf you read before and see what changes.

holy shit this essay. never in my life have i felt so stupid and inferior while reading a book. woolf is so smart and intelligent and talented it's actually insane. her ideas, her thoughts, are all pure gold and i wish this was taught in schools more because people can really benefit from her words.
such a nice short read and it's super mindblowing.
