The author took a risk by choosing a path that is less traveled by and it shows in the ratings. I love this story so much. For the same reason why some people don't like this story and more.
I enjoyed the fact that the BDSM aspect of this story was somewhat messy and not completely planned out. Sometimes, I get tired of a story where the Dom knows exactly what to do and the sub is able to go on the full ride. I liked that there was a moment of uncertainty in Alistair the first time he submitted. It felt real.
The sex was steamy and as I already mentioned, I really liked that it was a little messy. I got a little kick out of seeing one tiny but very telling sentence where Malcolm tells Alistair to "go inside and get cleaned up" and "be thorough". You don't really see much references to the preparation that usually takes place prior to sex and I liked that this was in there.
The characters came to life for me. Each of them had flaws and issues that didn't go away overnight. It was good to see that Alistair is getting his chance to go out in the world and grow up on his own. I like that Malcolm and Charlie took the important step not to pursue the relationship with Alistair and instead chose to let him go.
The relationship between Alistair and his mother is wonderful. I love seeing a healthy parent-child relationship. Eventhough his mother was disapproving of his relationship with the two guys, she wasn't judgemental or angry. What a great mom!
The ending is open-ended and that is fine by me. Of course, I still hope that there's a HEA for the three of them, but I am perfectly okay if it turns out that in the end, Alistair has found someone else in his life and that Malcolm and Charlie have moved on permanently.

I love that this doesn't end in a HEA. There's a lot of unresolved issues but that is the appeal for me because that is what life is like.I enjoyed the fact that the BDSM aspect of this story was somewhat messy and not completely planned out. Wow. So not what I expected. Turned out to be way better than I anticipated even with the ending which was actually perfect all things considered. A hell of a story, Jaime. Seriously.
I wavered between 3 and 4 stars, and went with 4 because I really did enjoy this...wasn't such a fan of the bittersweet ending, but it was emotional and realistic, and I think a solid way to end this story. I really loved the characters, especially Malcolm. Thank you for a great story!
I've heard that sometimes a story writes itself and that an end presents itself that is not popular but fitting for the characters. That anything else would would ring false and feel unnatural.
Perhaps that's what happened with this story. It isn't really what I think of as a HEA and maybe you could justify it as a HFN with potential but really, if anything, I think that
If I was the prompt writer I would feel a cheated. I feel it barely fit the prompt and it could have been made to work into a HEA, which was the request. Some have applauded the author for going a different way but I feel in the case of story requests you are writing for someone else, not yourself, and should give that person what they want.
One star for the participation in the writing event, one star for the hot sex.

all three end up in a worse place than when then started. Their joining, while fun, formed an attachment and the feeling I got was that Malcom wouldn't allow them to take it further due to the long distance. This then left a hole that made me sad for all of them, therefor not HFNIf I was the prompt writer I would feel a cheated. OK, I loved this story! All of it! Even the bittersweet ending. Because anything else would have been detrimental to Alistair. And ultimately a detriment to Mal and Charlie.
I can't wait for Mal and Charlie's book to come to fruition so a few of my questions about them can be answered!
