I wanted to like this novel more than I did, but I had some major issues with this one. The main character Khalil is super unlikable, but honestly that doesn't matter too much to me; I've read plenty of books with main or side characters that aren't the most likable people. I guess his biggest sin is that he's boring, but acts like he is the most unique person ever. I had another major issue with this novel and it falls more squarely on Kathleen Ryan, but she dropped the N word in this novel. I understand what she was going for in that scene and what kind of statement she was trying to make with Khalil, but only did it fall short but landed very flat. If not for the fact that I'm invested in this series and brand, I would have put the book down there. As it is, I will have trouble picking up any more Vampire books by Ryan in the future.

Overal, Khalil's storyline felt very trite; he is one dimensional and shows no growth throughout the story. Honestly, I feel like the clan novel story would have been better without this entry.
