I loved this book so much. It's a perfectly bit-sized collection of poems about the joys and comedies of aging. It's also a lot about love in later years. I found it heart-meltingly beautiful.

I don't have enough words to commend this tiny gem of a book. I hate poetry, but I loved this book. I had only read her well known children's book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day - but a friend sent me an article about the author and after reading it, I put a library hold on the book. Now I think I'll put a hold on all her other volumes, she is that good.

As she nears the ripe old age of 90, Viorst reminisces on the trials and tribulations of aging. While I'm nowhere near 90, but feeling my age, I laughed and I cried and felt like she was a kindred spirit as well as a fly on the wall to my 40 year marriage. Simply delightful!

Wouldn't I linger with you till the sky had turned black
If this was the very last sunset we'd ever see?
Wouldn't desire be trumping that pain in my back
If this was the last time that you could make love to me?
Would I complain you were stepping all over my toes
If this was the last of the dances we'd ever dance?
And wouldn't I travel wherever the highway goes,
If you traveled with me and this was our last chance?
