"Death drives every creative and destructive impulse we have as human beings. The closer we come to understanding it, the closer we come to understanding ourselves."

Caitlin Doughty believes that death is what gives our lives meaning and argues that our death denial culture and practices are causing us big problems. She's a licensed mortician who shares her experiences and philosophies around death (and corpses) in an effort to shake the reader out of their fear and complacency.

This book is many things: a cultural roadmap to death beliefs and practices, a memoir of the author's experiences working in a crematory, and a philosophy of what it means to experience the good death.

I definitely recommend giving it a read.

...just don't read it while you're eating!
