Kiley Reid did such a great job with this piece. There’s only so much you can say about A short story without basically spilling all the details but the emotional stakes here were hard hitting. The ending left me hanging but also, it was necessary. Great read!

I don’t usually read short stories. I started looking into black authors and saw Kiley Reid in the list for Such A Fun Age. This short story was an earlier writing, so I started with it. I have to say that I think I’ll read more short stories now. I really enjoyed this story. I learned some things, and also appreciated the growth of the characters throughout the narrative. The ending even moved me to the point of having tears in my eyes.

This is a beautiful short story. I’m looking forward to diving into her novel next.
