This was not what I was expecting, but I loved it.
I loved the world building and I love that the strong female character can be strong without being obnoxiously rude. I didn’t realize I would enjoy this as much as I. Definitely recommend this book.

Between 2.5-3 stars, for the sole reason that I absolutely despised Verity, poor Woodrow being stuck with such a child, but I guess it was fitting since she pretty much WAS a child. She was CONSTANTLY crying and throwing temper tantrums. The most annoying part what when she threw a fit and gave poor Woodrow the cold shoulder because she found a photo of a past girlfriend in his desk. Except the ex is dead but she just won’t listen to him when he tries to explain, in a very mature way, that he loves her (for god knows what reason). It was beyond annoying.

Loved this book, the characters, the world, the plot and the spice! I needed this fast paced and fun page turner to hype over. This was my introduction to this series and I read this prequel in a day. Since reading this I have also devoured the first book in the series (second if you count the prequel as the first)..and I am amazed at how addicting these books are.
I do love everything I’ve read by L.V Lane. I didn’t love this. I did like it, it was fine. I just wanted more.
I loved Verity. She was very sweet and I loved her powers.
Woodrow was just as flat as a pancake for me. I felt absolutely nothing for him which is part of the reason I’ve given three stars. Maybe I’m just a sucker for more traditional alphas. He was a little dull

** spoiler alert ** So, this book had all the trappings to be something that I'll love, but never *quite* got there.
Positives:
- innocent vulnerable h who is escaping a bad home life
- manipulative aloof protective alpha H - he is eventually kinda jealous and possessive
- we get the full Omega/Alpha set up here - she's submissive, he's in control - knotting, "slick", spanking, daddy-ish kink (although that word is never uttered), dubcon... all the good stuff - it's very smexxy in all the ways
- a little angst
- some OM/OW drama - nothing too crazy, but enough for a little emotional conflict
- dual POV
Negatives:
- I was not feeling the connection here. The H went from seeing her one time, via camera, to LOVING her in a nanosecond. It was weird and jarring and made no sense whatsoever. He was completely obsessed from word "go"... I'm not sure why we didn't get some relationship building... the book had plenty of room for it. I never felt like these 2 truly loved each other. Smexxy time: 10
Actual connection: 2
- the h's virginity is claimed by a dildo in front of a pervy audience. She just barely remembers it. Killing me with the romance, man.
- the h is "trained" by another Omega man... so she has a puppy love relationship with someone else (before meeting the H) and has on-page detailed sex with that man. Multiple times. Like they are going at it like rabbits. She fancies herself in love with him, and she's devastated when the H takes her away. I am NOT wild about any part of this scenario. In fact, I almost stopped reading all together, when I could see where it was headed.
- that relationship the h had with the OM? the H knew about it. Even watched them having sex via hidden camera. He was fine with it. That is not my idea of good hero. I thought he'd be enraged and demand it stop immediately... but no. I was hoping it would at least get us a good jealous freak out... but no. It was just *there*. I've never seen an Omegaverse setup where the h needed to be sexually trained, by anyone other than the H(s), or with an H who would tolerate their mate being with someone else, in that way, so it just felt unnecessary and gave me all the *icks*.
- there's a surprise dead OW - we find out that this isn't the first time the H has been obsessed/in love with an Omega. Been there, done that. I'd like to burn the t-shirt, thankyouverymuch.
Bottom line? I liked the ideas here, but the connection and lack of true emotion held it back for me. 3-star. I'd like to try another by this author that is more my flavor.
FOR THE SAFETY SQUAD
- no cheating or sharing once the h and H are together
- The H has a dead Omega in his past who he loved, and the h finds out about it and is upset
- the h has an on-page physical and emotional relationship with OM before she meets the H... the H knows about it and approves while it's happening.
- dubcon is inherent in the Omegaverse dynamic

This was fine, a decent story that kept my attention enough for me to finish. However, I wasn’t invested - in characters or plot. Woodrow is unlikeable, even for a broody Alpha, and he tends to feel stale for lack of supporting characters. Verity is better, but doesn’t have a consistent defiant badassery to her that I would prefer. TBH Lilly is the best character and has the most interesting backstory; I’d read more if only for her. I also don’t really get the Cinderella vibe other than the mean step mother and losing a shoe. That isn’t even Cinderella - she’s meant to actually like the man and want to find him again, but instead, he’s a jerk and also old?? The age gap was weird.
I was also consistently frustrated and cringing at the repeated “lessons” theme. It’s redundant, in a bad way. It’s like there’s an attempt at being deep and ethereal, but it feels so forced and out of place in the pace of the writing and story. Ugh.
Plus, there’s only one decentish sex scene, and it’s during the time before our characters like each other, so one feel conflicted reading it. Otherwise, the heat is very low throughout. And very D/s, which isn’t out of place in omegaverse themes, but, again, paints conflicting views of “is she a sub or is it assault” and “do we like him or hate him”. Just, too muddy to be that great.

I've been on an MF Omegaverse trip lately and have searching hard for the next author that I could binge, this book was recommended by a FB bookgroup that I joined.
What a great book! I have loved each and every book in this series and was excited to read this prologue to it. It was every bit as good as I’d anticipated and ticked every box as far as I’m concerned. I especially liked the deep emotional bond that grew between the two main characters, which seemed so genuine. This is definitely on the lighter end of the omegaverse spectrum, with no particularly upsetting scenes, just lots of heat and emotion. Sheer perfection!

A decent Omeagverse story with elements of Cinderella and military warfare.
