This was a wonderfully unique fantasy novel, with great writing, awesome world-building, and characters that evolve over the course of the book.
Most of the plot points were wrapped up by the end of the novel, but I am looking forward to seeing where the author takes the story. There were some flawed, unpleasant characters, and a reader's reaction to these characters and their changing attitudes may influence how much the reader enjoys the book.
I will be recommending this and will definitely read the next book by the author.
Appeal terms: World-building, strong sense of place, LGBTQIA diverse, flawed characters

Yo this book is just what I needed. Larkwood injected some much-needed life into the fantasy/adventure genre. The many different settings in the story have as much individuality as each of the characters do. Theres certain little things I wished for a little more elaboration on but all in all this was a really fun adventure! Can’t wait to see more from this series or this author!
Moderate: Emotional abuse, Adult/minor relationship, and Toxic relationship
Minor: Child death
High fantasy action that twists its way from set piece to set piece across an intriguingly unique setting. There are occasionally points where the pacing jumps a little as pieces are moved to the next dramatic climax, but overall this is a hell of a lot of fun. Original, fun, exciting. Came for the death cults, stayed for the endlessly entertaining character dynamics
