I totally loved this and almost wish it was a full length novel. I ordered it because it was recommended during conference I went to so I didn't know much about it. I picked it up as I was cataloging and started to skim through it to see what I could tell kids about it. A period later I was done and checking to see if the second volume is out yet. (It's not by the way.) I can't wait to book talk this one.

The characters are great Seifer is struggling to do the best he can in this situation as well as stay true to what he believes. Cassie is a strong female character who is often rescuing Seifer. They are both smart and funny and great role models.

There isn't much else to say except I loved just about everything about it. The only thing that could have made it better was more details. It reminded me a lot of TenNapel's books in that way. With Pandemonium as with his books I found myself wishing it was a full length novel because I just wanted MORE! I would have lost out on the beautiful illustrations though.

Verdict: If graphic novels are popular in your library you should definitely pick this one up. I love giving people graphic novels like these to prove that they really do have substance and that they do have a place in libraries. If you are just growing your graphic novels section this would be a good book of substance to get your hands on.

I love the art of this one, and while it's a little immature at times and things move quickly, I understand why. There's a really good story behind the art, which has a clean and good style, and I enjoyed it! Definitely going to be on the lookout for the sequel, if there is one out there, the ending signalled enough of one that I really want to see where this goes. The characters are interesting and fun, and Seifer as a protagonist has a great energy, he falls into what he needs to quickly but also his reluctance is pretty understanding. One to keep an eye on!

Pandemonium is an appropriately (lots of dark tones to reflect the situation and the world) illustrated and very enjoyable graphic novel. It's been forever since I've read The Prince and the Pauper, though this book still reminded me of it. The "pauper" in this story doesn't meet the prince and then voluntarily switch places with him. Instead two young men from hugely different walks of life swap lives in a different sort of way.

Readers will find humor, particularly in the ginormous cat owned by the prince. There's plenty of action and battle scenes. There's manipulation, plotting, politics, and nifty flying! Hey, there's even a touch of romance. I sure hope there will be a sequel! Oh, my 11-year old son also read it, and liked it as much as me--four stars from him too!

I remember being very underwhelmed by this book.

But maybe that's only because of my inflated expectations.

The cover is killer. The reviews are pretty sparkly. It's in full color. It seems like a shoe-in for booktalks to middle schoolers.

And a consequence of taking this long to write my review is that I can't remember exactly what I didn't love about the book.

Maybe it was just that I didn't LOVE it.

The story is pretty unsurprising - I was expecting most of the twists and turns. And the reviewer who said the art looks like manga fan art was right on. This isn't necessarily a good thing for me.

There's a foreignness to the story - it feels like something which did not originate in amerikan culture. In places it feels like a bad translation of something good.

Maybe just the growing pains of a writer not used to the GN format.

Ok, though, peeps - I'm not a cat person, but there is a giant pet cat in this book and it might be my favorite part.

In the aftertaste, I remember it well enough to at least CONSIDER it for booktalking. Though something newer and better will probably come along instead. I really gotta quit booktalking stuff by [a:Doug TenNapel|45687|Doug TenNapel|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1239071739p2/45687.jpg].

This is a really fun graphic novel. The art reminds me of the current style of animation American cartoons has taken, but also calls back to the Anime-type style of Japan. This is a retelling of "The Prince and the Pauper" with a few twists! This takes place in another reality with many different humanoid races. The ending sets up a sequel, and I am dying to find out when that might come out!

The art is very pretty, especially the backgrounds, but the story is a bit lacking. It's a sort of prince and the pauper story, but the plot ping pongs all around. There is potential here in expanding he story and characters with a follow up book, but I'm not sure there's actually going to be a sequel. There is a giant demon cat though, and that definitely counts fro something.

Could have gone without all the names inspired by diseases, but all things considered, I quite liked this graphic Prince and the Pauper fantasy spin off. Where is the sequel?!?!
