I enjoyed almost all of the short stories a lot, but I especially want Select Character by Hugh Howey to be made into a full-length story!!

Like most short story collections that I’ve read, there are some really great ones and some really awful ones. That makes it difficult to rate, but I’d say it’s between 3 and 3.5. This was a really cool collection because it was centered around video games. Some of the stories that I liked most were NPC by Charles Yu, 1 Up by Holly Black, Roguelike by Marc Laidlaw, and The Clockwork Solider by Ken Liu. Due to the fact that I haven’t really read much or anything by these authors, it gives me some new material to read, which I particularly like. However, I really didn’t like Twarrior by Andy Weir (which sucks because he’s the biggest author in this book, and even though I hated Artemis I loved The Martian), Outliers by Nicole Feldringer, and Survival Horror by Seanan McGuire. It’s definitely worth a read for gamers out there though.

Came for Seanan and left 50% through. First half stories were good. After Incrytid, the stories seemed to have less points and rather meh. Saved myself and let it go.

Like any anthology, there were some stories that were better than others. Overall, an interesting take on video games.

I had somewhat high hopes for this short story collection, but came away mostly disappointed. The concept here are short stories that in some way involves video games in some way, shape, or form. Some of the stories are inspired by games, others read like an adventure game, and some even confuse games and reality in strange ways. I think my disappointment comes from two things, that I felt that there were far too many stories in here that I just didn't care about whatsoever, and that I had higher expectations for authors like Andy Weir and Hugh Howey. There were a couple very good, page turning, gripping stories in this collection, but they were few and far between and weren't enough to carry the book.

For an anthology, slightly above average! More good than bad... definitely a go to for quicfic in the gamersphere!
