The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

4.0

So I finally got around to reading the Hunger Games :D

I really REALLY like the way the author presents the world (even though there are some serious question marks, I'm willing to overlook them for the interesting 'country' that is Panem)

The Hunger Games are a sad fact of life there, and it is felt throughout the entirety of the book. There are a lot of parallels to 'Battle Royale', but as before, I'm willing to overlook them for the sheer vibrancy with which this story was written.
At some points I was SO into the narrative, that I literally jumped whenever something unexpected happened. I almost cried when all of the implications surrounding the Hunger Games began to sink in, and I started to like characters more because they were a lot more fleshed out than in the movie (which I saw first)

My favourite character was Cato (hands-down :D. I have a HUGE thing for the arch-enemy types), even though it was all about Katniss as she's our protagonist. So you can probably guess at which point I started yelling at Katniss for what she was doing (or more specifically, not doing...)

Anyways, the story was great, the characters were awesome, the love triangle I really could have done without. Those are my short thoughts on The Hunger Games.

Looking forward to Catching Fire, even though... you know... (stage whisper: CATO!!!!)

Over and Out!
