was not prepared for a book with this much testosterone to have sci-fi Edna Mode give Darrow a nice sci-fi frankenstein glow up ✨. But whatever was needed for the mission ✨ darling ✨. The amount of arrogance that it takes in order to rewrite an entire way of thinking that completely relies on bullshitting the system is so utterly weird that i feel i have no choice but to respect it.

An incredible book. The first 50 pages are up there with the best start to any book I have ever read, the kind of stuff that makes you put the book down and take a break for a bit. The rest of the book continues with this fast-paced, hard hitting style that is very unique but fits the content well. Great start to the series.

I had to get past all the misogyny. It was annoying. Lots of derogatory "like a girl" comments.  Among other things, check the trigger warnings. It's a weird book. Good plot and interesting twist on a dystopian fight the hierarchy theme but odd.  Probably could've used a glossary. It was If hunger games (more gore), will of the many (with a less endearing MMC), Frankenstein and the avengers (just Thanos) had a baby. I'm questioning if I'm a Scifi dystopian Fantasy fan.  Maybe it's me or maybe I was expecting more because of all the hype. The character development was good but I guess I'm among the few who feel like the world building is a bit weak. The class system is well explained but not so much the why or how.  I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed much of it but it felt like a giant tossed  word salad, at times.  I'm not sure I enjoyed it enough to finish the series because I'm not sure I like Darrow all that much or that I believe he's passionate about his cause. They should've sent Eo.

Wow.
Fast paced.
Relentlessly brutal.
Endlessly entertaining, engaging and emotionally damaging (in a good way?).

I went into this read blind, no synopsis read or anything. I'm glad I did because I was surprised from start to finish.

Those who enjoyed Ender or Hunger Games and desire a similar but more mature story...dig in!

A strong start to the series. The pace, characters, and world building are easy to understand and you only get information when you need it to keep the story going.

This could have been a YA series, and I’m so glad the author didn’t go that direction. It feels impossible to remember that they are teenagers as they read like adult.
