Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell

5.0

It’s a classic for a reason! I listened to Audible’s adaptation, and it was very well done. Andrew Garfield does a great job at narrating and portraying Winston (6079) Smith- and the rest of the cast makes it feel so cinematic. I just closed my eyes and listened to the entire adaptation in one sitting.

The public’s collective “memory loss” and rewriting history is incredibly disturbing. I love the inclusion of “new speak” and the complications of strong emotions throughout, and how this book doesn’t take too long to explain how things work in this dystopian world.

I love the conflict and moral questions this book poses- it’s truly something that everyone should read at least once in their adult lives. That ending is not for the faint of heart- yikes! So creepy and scary!
