I gave this book a perfect 5 stars. I've heard great things about Riley Sager and I can say, they were true.
The writing is incredible! Easy to follow but very immersive. The writing was so intense, which is a plus because it is a thriller book, that I had to stop reading and breathe before continuing. This book was hard to put down and hard to pick back up because of the intensity and emersion. The world building was perfect. The descriptions were perfect. It was like watching a movie.
The characters were very diverse and when they were on the page you saw their personalities, their flaws and their trauma not just their appearance.
The TWISTS and TURNS almost gave me a heartattck. Just when you think you finally understand... You don't. There was something new at every single turn. At times I had to put down the book, scream, freak out and it have me anxiety - the kind you want from a thriller book. I normally read cozy books because my anxiety can't handle suspense and this book had a LOT of it but it was worth it so I kept reading.
This is the type of book you can't tell someone about, they need to read it and experience it for themselves and I'd recommend it to any Thriller reader.
Amazing author. Amazing concept. Amazing book. An easy 5 stars.

Oh just wow, wow, absolutely emotion inductive read!

The twists in this book, oh my they most certainly aren't ones that you would completely guess. Some are obvious, some come hit you in the face, like Hope End Falling from the cliffs.

If you like thrillers I really recommend this one, it's absolutely amazing and I can see why it's so popular.

This would absolutely make one amazing film or TV series.

When I finished the last few chapters, I'd shed tears, sat moving constantly, ignored everyone and was left speechless.

I think i found a new favourite 😍

Woah.

This was just phenomenal and mindblowing. This is probably the first book that truly brought me to understand what to be  mindblown means.

Also, this thriller book consisting of so much death and misery also ended up having potentially the most feel-good, chill inducing endings I ever read. I am so happy for Virginia’s life she had after all of the truth came out.

The only thing I can think of that I wanted clarified is what was up with Detective Vick- he worked there at the same time Kit’s dad did but I do not recall any part where we heard more after Kit said that he should be called right before the confrontation with her dad

welp, that's my first Riley Sager book and I think it's safe to say it won't be my last

✨ 𝗕𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 ✨ B̷O̷R̷R̷O̷W̷ B̷Y̷P̷A̷S̷S̷

just imagine a meme where the person is saying "mind blown" with the most gobsmacked wtf is even going on expression on their face and that's me at the end of this book

I just .... I mean. I get it, I see where you're going with this, but also, I mean, really? That's what you're going to do?

Lots of twisty twists and even when you think you know exactly where it's going, you really don't (although you might for the most part but believe me you don't fully) (and it's so worth it)

super atmospheric, super creepy, super near-impossible to put down, super here for this

The Only One Left by Riley Sager

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)

Genre: Thriller/Mystery

About 380 pages

After being accused of killing a patient, Kit’s last hope for a job is to take one with a woman accused of murdering her entire family decades ago, Lenora Hope. Lenora Hope is non-verbal and effectively paralyzed, apart from her left hand, rendering her harmless. However, Kit can’t help but feel anxious and in danger around Lenora… When Lenora starts using a typewriter one day to tell the story of her family's murders, Kit gets addicted. Was Lenora truly responsible? Or is the story even more sinister than it seems?

WOW. This is my new favorite Riley Sager book. I had the privilege of going to a book chat and signing with Riley Sager over the summer and hearing him chat about this book. I wanted to wait until spooky season to read this book to add to the atmosphere, which it certainly did, but simultaneously, I wish I read it sooner. Sager took readers on a wild ride. I continuously changed who I was rooting for. My jaw dropped multiple times as I muttered, “what the f*ck” to myself. And I was overall just blown away! I was also happy because I figured out a few of the big reveals a chapter or two early, which gave me a sense of satisfaction without knowing where the book was going the whole time.

Favorite Quote: “Haunting’s not the right word. But, yes, her presence can be felt here. At Hope’s End, the past is always present.”

For readers chasing their next dark murder mystery full of twists and turns, The Only One Left is for you. Set in a crooked mansion falling in disrepair, on the cliffs where all the wealthy folk built their glorious lives, is a story steeped in a massacre that has devolved into town folklore. Lenora Hope is believed to have murdered her family and now Kit is her caretaker.

Kit also has her own secrets, a past woven with a mysterious death. Together, Sager has tangled together a dark story with many possibilities and tension that will keep you reading late into the night. The steady pace of unravelling the truth escalates into a stunning conclusion, with the final chapters being nothing short of a rollercoaster of answers. A dramatic story in every way, this is an atmospheric book perfect for stormy nights.
