This is, I think, one of those “it’s not you, it’s me” moments. Objectively I think this is a good book! I just did not enjoy it unfortunately.
The Husbands is really funny; it follows Lauren, who comes home after a night out with friends to find a strange man in her home. But even stranger- she finds out she’s married to this man and him and everyone in her life has recollection of them being together. Stranger yet- when he goes up into the attic, he is replaced by a new husband!
I think the writing in this is really good and definitely very funny. I like all the different quirks of the different husbands, they have super unique characteristics that are hilarious and add so much to the story and premise. I loved the idea of it and I definitely get the commentary about modern dating and dating apps. At the end of the day it just left me feeling bored and I never wanted to pick it up. I did not feel very connected or invested in the main character. So much happened, but also nothing happened? It felt really long and dragged out for minimal payoff.
If it sounds up your alley I still would recommend giving it a try! I really wanted it to work for me.

I hate it when this happens. While reading the first half of The Husbands, I was into it and thinking it may be a four-star read. As the book continued, I grew tired of the constant exchanging of husbands and wanted more insight and reflection into relationships and marriage. What did me in, though, was strongly disliking the ending. Read if you enjoy: repetition, humor, games, magic attics

It was laugh-out-loud funny at parts, the author captures many hilarious and realistic human quirks in the parade of husbands through the protagonist's attic. The plot was interesting, winding, and unexpected - which made it a slow read for me, but not unpleasantly so. It's a very original storyline that raises questions and makes meaning of modern dating and also meaning-making for life in general. It also wonderfully captures many unique aspects of marriage, at least many I could relate to from 8 years married so far.

I love this premise -- what happens when you're supplied a seemingly endless number of husbands via your magic attic? Holly Gramazio plays with a thought we've all fantasized about, the idea of getting do-overs in life. It makes us explore regrets we've had in past relationships, and wonder if things would be better if we chose the right person, avoided the wrong ones, or found peace alone.
I really enjoyed the creativity behind this story. It was funny and entertaining, and satisfyingly wrapped up in a sweet way. I do think this could have been a much shorter book; I think the repetition was purposeful to help us feel the monotony of the protagonist's strange new life, but I found myself just wanting to get through to the end as the point was made clear enough.
You'll enjoy this if you want something funny and light, with some magical realism, and a creative take on modern relationships and finding your person.
