This was occasionally delightful, occasionally infuriating. I cannot believe how overwritten it was in places, but I still really appreciated so many of the moments and insights we got. It just sort of gets to the point, where every single sentence is like a gunshot, then eventually it just stops having an impact. But there were absolutely moments where I was just about to cry with grief or joy so they must have been doing something right.

this definitely falls into the category of book where I can appreciate the themes explored in this and how beautiful the writing is but also admit i just don’t think this writing style is for me. It's very poetic and flowery(? not even sure I want to categorize it as that but it's the best I can come up with rn) which I think is just one of those "either it works for you or it doesn't" situations, not a fault of the book whatsoever. Some people find that meandering element helpful in really immersing themselves into the story while for others it can be a bit dizzying and have an adverse effect, I think im just in the latter group!
