Red Rising;It all started with love, gas bubbles and lying gold.Red, the miners, risking it all the save the future for all people. They mine a viable ingredient needed to create a living environment on Mars. For hundreds of years they have done this, living like slaves, barely enough or water. The Golds, the superior ones serve up severe punishments and rations. They don't dare question the situation, it will get better when the planet is inhabitable. They can finally rest, eat and settle into a life. Except there are many things wrong here, many hidden truths.Everything begins changing when a very young beautiful wife is murdered by the Golds. She is a martyr. She sung a forbidden song, one that was seen on many worlds before she was hung for it. The horror is even made worse when the family must involve themselves in their loved ones deaths because of low gravity. Her husband dies shortly after her.The caste system is run by colors. The lowest of the castes, the Reds. The highest the Golds, with all the colors in-between. It is a harsh society, filled with lies, mistrusts and egomaniacs.The story takes a turn and moves towards a better future for all. At least that is what they hope for, but things din't come easy or simply. Many die, is heartbreaking moments. (get out the tissues) Things are done in wars that makes no man or woman proud, and this is a war.Great characters, all with distant personalities. It is easy to love or hate them. To cheer for them, to hope, to want them to die. Yes, it is that rattling, you will not find yourself nodding off during the reading of this book.If you liked Hunger Games, you will love this book. It is similar in taste but goes in another direction.
An excellent sit on the edge of your seat page turner. Action, intrigue, backstabbing, politics, battles and broken hearts.i expect to see this author receive many awards for his great work.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown presents a compelling narrative that echoes a more matured Hunger Games, infused with elements of Game of Thrones.

While the writing could have been polished for a smoother delivery, the story itself grips with its captivating plot. The initial buildup may feel weighty, and the middle section can drag a bit, yet as protagonist Darrow navigates the intricacies of his society, the narrative gains momentum.

Once it hits its stride (get to the bit she starts to sing), I found myself wanting to find out more. Brown skillfully crafts a world where the stakes are high, and every decision has far-reaching consequences.

Not my favorite but also not bad. Just didn’t check all the boxes for me and was definitely an adjustment from usually reading writing from female authors

I really hated this book! 

Basically a 16 year boy who doesn’t realize he’s a slave undergoes intense plastic surgery to infiltrate his planets “gods” and eventually ends up becoming the very thing he was fighting against.
