Read this for the second time almost ten years after reading it the first time–this time around doing a buddy read so I can finally finish this series. Let me tell you I am IN THIS. Very invested. So far I've definitely been tracking how each book feels individually versus in the larger series arc. Each book ends with the promise of things to come, for sure, but I'm not feeling frustrated by cliffhangers or "filler books." Onward!

A good book. I’ll read the next to learn more about this world and the characters, but I preferred the first two books to this one.

The plot was so good but the romance in this book stops me to give it a higher ranking. It was not as bad as I remembered it being but
it still icks me that she changed her love interest out of nothing. I felt no chemistry in any of the first two books.

The beginning of this book was really slow, I’m surprised I finished it but glad I did and I’m excited to read the next one. I enjoyed the plot line and loved reading some of the hints we got in book one!! The characters were great and I know it’s probably not going to happen but I love Chaol and Celaena together right now. I also love Dorian. These are great characters!

Compared to the first book this one wasn’t as great, mostly because I felt it was a bit slow and I was so mad at why Celaena wrote off Chaol. I hate misunderstanding tropes, she went bezerk before she even talked to him about it, and Celaena is just so wishy washy about who she is, what she stands for, what she even wants. spoiler: she has no idea yet so we’ll see how the next one pans out for her
